Civic Engagement

Civic engagement is one of the six core values of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ – we will increase community-wide engagement ideas and actions for social transformation and human progress. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ is deeply engaged in the development of ethical citizen leaders committed to providing creative solutions for the common good. Our academic programs, research activity and volunteer programs testify to our rich tradition of service. Our alumni give back to their communities in their native countries and abroad. We strive to reinforce our commitment to the development of civic conscience and the pursuit of the common good with academic and service programs that focus on the region and with campus conversations and activities that center on the responsibility to serve. The privilege of achieving academic excellence in a liberal arts university will be enriched with a deepened understanding of the responsibility and satisfaction that comes from a commitment to social service and to civic engagement.Ìý Ìý

Social issues in Kyrgyzstan and the wider Central Asian region include low quality of life in the regions, enduring problems in healthcare, food security, air quality, and a lack of social capital. Migration to cities, and integration issues further increase poverty, homelessness, drug addiction, and the inconsideration of human rights of children and women, people with disabilities, orphans, and minority groups, remain critical issues and require urgent solutions.

To better address these issues, ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) demonstrates ÐÓ°É´«Ã½â€™s commitment to engaging with its stakeholders in the community, broadly defined.Ìý The CCE encourages more ethical behaviors that will help Kyrgyzstan and wider Central Asia grow and be stable and will be able to better train community leaders who will help solve community problems, will advance ÐÓ°É´«Ã½â€™s public image be a role model to other organizations in order to encourage widespread development of good citizenship.
